Stubellum noun
From the Latin: stultus (idiot) plus bellum (war). Literally an ‘idiot war’, stubellum occurs when the actions of two idiots cancel each other out. The word has its origins in an motor vehicle incident involving a Ms. Lorraine McDermott and a Ms Fiona O’Connell at the intersection of Bridge Street and Water Street, Donegal Town, on the 2nd of August 2002 when Ms McDermott’s husband, reacting to a ridiculously dangerous maneuver by the car Ms O’Connell was driving, recorded the following conversation between himself and his wife:
“Holy feck, Lorraine! That was crazy! She could have smashed right into us!”
“Oh, it’s okay. I didn’t see her either. I was busy eating this cheesecake.”
“You are both idiots. I think I’ll have to invent a new word to describe just how idiotic that was.”
“You do that, John. I’m sure it will catch on.”
“It will, Lorraine.”
